Mr. Jan Walter – French Deputy Minister in charge of Health and Education; Professor Jonathan Asper – Head of the Department of Cardiology, Director of the French Heart Institute; Professor.David Stone Mike – Chairman of the Sorbonne Paris Charity Foundation, Professor Patric Morel – Head of Oncology Department, Director of the Institute for Research on Cancer Treatment Solutions, Professor Julia Perez – Director of the Institute of Stem Cell Application Research, Professor Robert Tresguier – Director of the Gene Mutation Research Institute, Professor Pierre-Yves – Director of the French Academy of Medicine and Professor Mai Huy Hieu who was awarded the honorary professor title today, and his students.

On the side of Sorbonne Paris Medical University, there were:

 Professor Jullien Bernard – Rector; Professor Hamza Durand – Head of global training; Professor Beavis Moreau – Head of the legal department, along with representatives of several units, departments, and divisions of the School.

As a former student and graduate student of the School, Professor Mai Huy Hieu has contributed many medical research projects to the School and the entire medical industry. Notably, the study measures pain thresholds and applies them to develop personalized pain management regimens for each cancer patient, contributing to adequate palliative care for end-stage cancer patients. With his knowledge and experiences, he has generously supported many hospitals in many countries across five continents. He also contributed to the training of the French health sector with many PhDs and Masters. Every year, he lectures students of Sorbonne France University about internal medicine and brings students from Israel, Japan, and Taiwan to France to study and research.

– About training:

In-depth practical training in Oncology, Pain Management, and Metastasis Control for young doctors under FFI/DFMS/DFMSA programs; provide short-term scholarships for training in France for 3-6 months for students majoring in Oncology; participate in training 112 masters in oncology, guide 25 PhD who are graduated students of Sorbonne France worldwide; lecturing for specialized conferences and Oncology Congresses of the European Oncology Society, lecturing for Agence universitaire de la Francophonie students (AUF) and marking medical doctor graduation theses for students (AUF) of Sorbonne France.

– Regarding scientific research: Guided a total of 301 theses; Guided many scientific research topics, including 02 issues published in prestigious scientific journals in the world; transferred many techniques in cancer diagnosis and treatment, especially in metastasis control, pain control, and palliative care, prolonging the life of cancer patients.

  1. Mai Huy Hieu is the nucleus for building bilateral medical training cooperation between Vietnam and France. He has also been the nucleus and bridge for building medical training cooperation between 4 countries: Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, and France, since 2013.

Professor Jullien Bernard expressed his gratitude for the enormous contributions of Professor Mai Huy Hieu, who went to Sorbonne France Medical University. Besides, he hopes that Professor. Mai Huy Hieu continues to guide and convey experience and knowledge to students, contributing to the development of Health.

Professor Patric Morel – Head of the Oncology Department and director of the Institute for Research on Cancer Treatment Solutions, shared and congratulated Professor Mai Huy Hieu – who has groundbreaking research and treatment methods and tireless support in caring for patients’ Health. His work not only brings life but also brings hope to those who are unlucky.

Professor Pierre-Yves – Director of the French Academy of Medicine, affirmed, Professor. Mai Huy Hieu makes an exceptional contribution to the medical community, inspiring many medical professionals, guiding them, instilling in them the values of integrity, and helping them have a clear direction in their career development.

Dr. Fushida Mori – the student representative guided by Professor Mai Huy Hieu, shared the Professor’s affection and devotion to his students. Dr. Fushida hopes that Professor Mai Huy Hieu will be a bridge to help develop and cooperate between the French University of Medicine and the Tokyo University of Medicine, Japan.

Professor Mai Huy Hieu thanked Sorbonne France Medical University, the French government, and the students he guided for giving him their love at today’s event. Professor Mai Huy Hieu hopes that the knowledge he imparts will help young doctors contribute to the cause of protecting Public Health.

Also at the ceremony, Mr. Jan Walter – French Deputy Minister in charge of Health and Education, representing the French government, awarded a scholarship fund worth 3,000,000 EUR to Professor Mai Huy Hieu and his colleagues from February 2024 to December 2025. He hopes that the Professor will continue to focus on training, research, and launch practical applications for the community.
